The First International Syndicalist Congress was a meeting of European and Latin American syndicalist organizations at Holborn Town Hall in London that began on this day in 1913. The congress was attended by 38 delegates representing 65 organizations from Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Cuba, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, with a total membership between 220,000 and 250,000.
Despite being marked by heated disagreements over both tactics and principles, the Congress succeeded in creating the International Syndicalist Information Bureau as a vehicle of exchange and solidarity between the various organizations, and the "Bulletin international du mouvement syndicaliste" as a means of communication. It would be viewed as a success by almost all who participated.

Still can't get over that elementary school posting about ice cream day and the line "Students are not permitted to buy ice cream for a friend."
It's like a story out of a childrens' book where all the little kids go buy ice cream but one of them can't afford it so his friends buy it for him and everyone is happy.
But we're so far down the hyper-individualist rabbit hole that this very basic "sharing is caring" moral has vanished entirely, our culture is so rotten that "NO HANDOUTS, YOU'RE NOT ENTITLED TO ANYTHING, FUCK YOU" takes precedence over basic empathy for freaking elementary schoolers.
Imagine being a teacher and having a little 6-year-old look up at you, asking if he can also have some ice cream like everyone else, and telling him "No." The thought of that makes me so fucking angry.
You're not alone there. I hate it with every fiber of my being.
I still to this day have troubles when it comes to picking out, purchasing and eating food in public settings thanks to the sheer amount of anxiety that was inflicted on me as a child. The pitying, judgemental eyes glancing back at me as the lunch lady says I have too much food for the "free lunch". Or even worse, now that I picked out extra, I have to pay "normal lunch price" plus the extra fee that I tacked on because I had the audacity to want a little extra slop. There was a "premium" lunch and snack concession line in the cafeteria for all the "better" treats, drinks and a bunch of random things you could bring back to your table to share with your friends. Good luck trying to convince the people running the concession line that you're not scamming them by "pretending to have a free or reduced lunch" tag on your account. All because you wanted something a little sweeter to make the day easier.
This was a high school cafeteria. I can't even understand how you could apply this way of thinking all the way down to the elementary schools. It's just heartless and I want to write something angry and edgy at the end of this sentence to justify the rage I feel.
That really seems like schniff pure ideology. Something I always appreciated about my cafeteria at a public (German) university was the attitude of the lunch ladies. They're not particularly nice, in fact they're kinda rude, but if you ask "can i have more potatoes/can i get more sauce" or whatever, they'll shovel more food on your plate with this "sure, whatever, i don't care" attitude.
I always call Florida the Heart of Darkness for a reason. It really is a libertarian paradise lol
someone should do a parody of Heart of Darkness set in the United States
Did you know that in American, there is no word for "kindness"? This is so sad, ChatGPT play Country Roads
Did you know that you’re just a dreamer and kindness is inherently anti-human nature?

Imagine being a teacher and having a little 6-year-old look up at you, asking if he can also have some ice cream like everyone else, and telling him "No."
i can't imagine being so out of touch with my basic humanity to do something so pointlessly cruel to a child
One of my proudest moments was when I went out for icecream with a cousin and his young daughters. The 10-year-old and I were in line, I had offered to pay. Clerk took her order and asked her "One scoop or two?" She looked up at me, I whispered to her "Two", and she got the biggest happiest grin on her face. No child goes without excessive amounts of icecream when I'm around.

Oh my bad guys I didn't realize the Nazi soldier who was in the SS had a problematic past.
“He was defending his country!!”
We’re gonna have “maybe hitler was right about a few things” by the next election cycle
Which is awesome because he literally wasn't, Ukraine was never a country of any kind prior to the formation of the Ukrainian ssr, which is exactly why the Galacian fascists wanted to murder every non-galacian Ukrainian - their 'ethnostate' dreams were hampered by the lack of a clearly defined Ukrainian ethnicity which is part of why they were so excited to exterminate poles, jews, and anyone else they deemed insufficiently Ukrainian.
Comrades, this is not a bit or a joke - I had a surprise date last night that I ended with Yellow Parenti.

It's incredible how quickly chauvinism pops up when arguing with radlibs about domestic politics.
'Can't criticize the because that helps russia!'
I'm so sick of having to talk about china or russia when discussing issues that aren't remotely related. I'm so sick of being called a putin bot or whatever because I am sick of American empire and its violence. I'm so sick of needing to find the "civil, proper" way to criticize the fact that the canadian parliament applauded a literal nazi.
I am tired
Honestly I can take it when it comes to China. It's exhausting, but I expected it as soon as I learned how the USSR was portrayed in US media and realized we've done the same to China
But why in the fuck am I having to listen to cold war fear-frothing about the Russian Federation?
I don't mind it when China or Russia comes up implicitly. I'm just exhausted of the empty argument that is "China/Russia/Venezuela/Cuba/Boogeyman tho. We have to do this horrific thing even if none of those geopolitical actors are meaningfully involved". I'll be doing distinctly local shit and this nonsense comes up. I'm sick of it.
Edit: but yes, definitely tiring to have to walk the line of 'no the rf is not evil incarnate and it has legitimate concerns but also it's not communist and deserves critique... it's complicated' especially when talking to people who barely understand what communism and capitalism actually are.

I like BG3, but I think the reason it gets so much praise is in part because people forgot what even a halfway competently put together game looks like. Compared to BG3, Starfield feels like one of those fake games you'd see characters on TV playing in the background.
Bugs and performance issues are one thing, but it's crazy how many big budget games seem to lack anything compelling underneath. There are only a couple AAA games every year that are on the same level as indie and AA titles that come out constantly.
I've been feeling really bad about my body recently because I'm overweight, and feeling bad just makes me want to eat food for comfort. How do I break out of this
Join c/fitness let's fuckin GET IT comrade [unironic] [not clickbait]
But first and foremost I've learned about the idea of "yes and" for food cravings. Like, if you want chips, you can put them on top of/as a side for a lean meat with a side of veggies or something. Ice cream could be a base for fruit with flax seeds and nuts. That way updating your diet isn't a depriving yourself of foods you want, but it's about making less room for low nutritional meal choices. E.g. I woooould gorge on McDonald's, but I just had all this seed&nut ice cream. I think that's a good way to breed success.
I think a way that breeds a lot of failure and bad feelings is using calorie counting before learning habits that inspire more nutritional density. If you portion out 2 baconators and don't eat for the rest of the day you're gonna feel like garbage.
Ultimately, I don't think you deserve to feel bad about your body for any reason besides your own. Your endeavors for more health don't have to be based on self-hatred to be successful. Cbum, Mr. Olympia, talks on this point about how people get mad at him because he's not "of the mindset" with all the rage and pain. However, at the end of the day, if your motivational calculus tells you to change your body, it will always come back, at some level, to taking some responsibility for your diet and exercise.
@WhatDoYouMeanPodcast@hexbear.net had a great reply, so consider this merely an add-on too it:
I do have quite a few thoughts about this. But first of all, kudos for you for wanting to get healthy; that's great. And we're absolutely all here for you!
I do think there is an aspect that is similar to other addictions, where there's a bit of a hump that you kind of have to force yourself over, and that part sucks (and it sucks again when you fall off the horse--because nobody gets it first try--and have to get over the hump again.) I personally think it's important to sort of face that head on and just recognize "I'm forcing myself to do something hard, and it's not going to feel good. But I will feel better later." When you're feeling down and are craving food, denying yourself that will absolutely make you feel cranky and even physically uncomfortable. Just like if you were quitting smoking. But, you can also try and take pride in that discomfort. The more uncomfortable you feel (within reason--don't starve yourself!!), the more that means you're accomplishing something impressive in terms of self-discipline and getting healthy.
I think it can be helpful to do something to "cut yourself off", like brush your teeth at 8pm and tell yourself "no food after 8. I already brushed my teeth for the night and I'm already in my pj's and ready for bed and everything. I'm not going to start eating now and do that all over again."
You can try relaxing supplements like CBD (I think that one on its own doesn't tend to give munchies??), chamomile, ashwaganda, etc. Heck, you can even go masturbate or something if that's your thing. Take a bubble bath. Whatever! But doing something else will both take your mind off food and directly address the anxiety that's making you want to stress eat.
Wean yourself off of comfort eating with healthier snacks. rice cakes, plain popcorn, apple slices... Also, eat plenty of fiber and drink plenty of water throughout the day. On that same note, there are some foods you can more or less eat as much of as you want without consequences, including watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, cucumber, cauliflower, broccoli, and carrots.
Finally, diet alone is a really, really hard way to lose weight. Exercise is pretty much essential. But it doesn't have to be hard! Just getting steps in is enough. Move around during the day, or go for a walk after work. etc etc. The other nice thing is that the two go hand in hand--when you exercise, you'll feel better and better about yourself. And dieting will make the exercise easier, which will make you feel better about dieting and make you feel even better!
i cannot stress enough how good the results I had from using a rowing machine were. I spent like 240ish on mine, there are cheaper ones though or you could try one at a gym to see how well it works out for you first. But like having any exercise machine is great for me because fuck working out outside, I want to do shit in air conditioning and with a fan on me thanks.
Anyway, I tried like running almost every day for a year + calisthenics, I tried using a rowing machine (set at a heavy resistance) almost every day for a year, I lost way more weight and got swole af with the latter
if you decide to do this just remember you'll have to do it for a month or two before you start to look at yourself in the mirror and go "woah this is happening" but trust me you will
