On this day in 1927, the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) called a strike of all mine workers, which was quickly heeded in Colorado. Nearly all the mines in Colorado were closed, and the dozen still open did so using imported scab labor. For the still-operating Columbine mine, scab workers were housed in Serene, which was fortified with barbed wire on the fences and armed guards.
Mass rallies had been held by workers outside the Columbine mine in Serene for several weeks and, on the morning of November 21st, miners and their families were fired upon by a militia of ex-police, armed with machine guns and tear gas. Six people were killed, and the event became known as the "Columbine Massacre".
The owner of the Rocky Mountain Fuel Company, Josephine Roche, brought an end to the strike several weeks after the incident at Columbine by declaring that the company union was to be affiliated with the American Federation of Labor (AFL) and recognizing the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA). The backbone of IWW support in the Colorado mines was broken, and the revolutionary union went into decline.

Welp, the rest of my company is back from that Europe trip I ditched, which means I'm back to trying to look responsible during work hours. 10-12 people apparently got Covid, so that just reaffirms that I made the right call.
Anyone have any general tips for running outdoors in cold weather? I'll probably just do laps around my block instead of going on the usual trail, as the wind will probably not be as bad with all the houses blocking it (it's an elevated trail). For when it starts getting really bad around here, I was kinda just thinking double up on sweatpants/hoodies, add some gloves, and just tough it out. I usually do 2.5 miles each run, if I push it to 3, even then I'd only be out for 30 minutes tops.
My only advice is not to overdo it. I swim for cardio in the winter because a) pool is empty and b) I overheat super easy
Nothing worse than feeling like a melting cpu at the turnaround point when running.

Both tbh, inverse relationship between the two. Less layers means you can push harder to warm up. Diminishing returns if you’re too cold to begin with and also there is a peak you can push. Personally, I sun for being slightly less layered than I can be while going my max ( at least before I stopped winter running)
Hope it helps, everyone has different heat tolerances and preferences, but at the end of the day working out is good.

Running on snow is safer than ice, shorten your strides if it's slick, warm up a little beforehand, you'll still need the same amount of water as a warm weather run, and you need surprisingly little in the way of extra clothes. All the heat you produce gets trapped in and insulates if you layer and tuck correctly. My zero degree outfit was spandex shorts and long sleeve, spandex tights and a cotton long sleeve, then a hoody or a fleece top, with wool socks, hat, mask/scarf, a pair of gloves and mittens. My breath would freeze on my face but i was nice and toasty running in that.
A moisture wicking base layer is very important. I would get wool socks in case your feet get wet too. You should be golden though.

Can I vent for a second? My family "friend" that my mom used to work with is useless. She's always swearing up and down how much she wants to help me but when I actually need help, whoa like magic she's suddenly busy! It's so cynical and she does such a bad job at hiding it too. I needed a ride to go pick my meds up this morning and sure enough by golly she's magically out of town! Whoa what a coincidence! Mind you this lady, the furthest she goes is just down the road for treats or the grocery store she works at. Now all of the sudden when I need help she's a big time traveler. And I know what's going on. She's been talking to my aunt who hates me and has her ear on facebook, boomer paradise. My aunt no doubt is telling her not to help me, it's so sick, I can't believe fucking boomers, I really can't. I know inter-generational fighting is liberalism but boomers just never cease to amaze me over how dumb and callous they are. People who had life handed to them on a silver platter and their miserable fucks who hate the world and everyone in it. Also want to add that whenever I stop by the store she works at she rushes out to great me and tell me how good I look and shit, like she's desperate for people to like her and yet she's just a selfish person, it's so two-faced.

Reading the WSJ article about how the Metaverse is falling way short of projections and the vast majority of user created worlds are empty and it makes me chuckle that one of the most valuable companies on earth was so desperate to pivot away from the reputation of "website that made your grandparents insane racists" they went all in on a kinda dumb idea with technology that's a decade away from being consumer ready
