That sucks, really shows how much people can be influenced over the years. The more I study history the more I see the true revolutionaries dug their heels into communist ideology and did not waver.

A lot of boomers in the US used to be very radical because they had long hair once, never beat up a gay person, and owned a copy of Malcolm X autobiography. They were sold a story of The Future, where conditions continue to improve, now they truly believe Biden is as far left as it gets while material conditions have continued to get worse in their lifetimes.

To me the takeaway is different. I am saddened by our communist party's utter failure to instill in the people a comprehensive theoretical understanding of Marxist-Leninist thought. Maybe it is as Xi claims, and the ideological break with Stalinism really cut at the roots of the whole project. The children of the party leaders became some of the most rapacious privitisation ghouls in the 90s and early 2000s. The current Socialist party is full of libs and completely lacks any form of class-based analysis or commitment to radical politics. And their aging, dwindling voters -- the people who grew up in the Cold War and were "forced" (libs say) to study marxism -- don't seem to see anything wrong with this. It's just red team vs blue team.

What communist party and socialist party are you referring to? In the US or China?

Class-based analysis is all but banned in the US from where I sit. Class as a concept is something you claw your way up, to escape from, with becoming a class traitor the only worthy goal. Even liberal colleges don't touch class solidarity because the grift relies on language and concepts alienating to the "non-educated" working class, as many now understand the use of post-modernism to the status quo - ironic that railing against post-modernism has become a reactionary talking point where academic radlibs seem to routinely/conveniently take the spotlight whenever Marxism appears in the cultural milieu.
