The Ñancahuazú Guerrilla or Ejército de Liberación Nacional de Bolivia was a group of mainly Bolivian and Cuban guerrillas led by the guerrilla leader Che Guevara which was active in the Cordillera Province of Bolivia from 1966 to 1967. The group established its base camp on a farm across the Ñancahuazú River, a seasonal tributary of the Rio Grande, 250 kilometers southwest of the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra. The guerrillas intended to work as a foco, a point of armed resistance to be used as a first step to overthrow the Bolivian government and create a socialist state
After serving in Castro's government, Guevara left Cuba in 1965 to foment revolution abroad, first unsuccessfully in Congo-Kinshasa and later in Bolivia.
Che Guevara was committed to ending American imperialism, and he decided to travel to the Congo during its civil war to back the anti-capitalist guerrilla groups. Guevara's aim was to export the revolution by instructing local anti-Mobutu Simba fighters in Marxist ideology and foco theory strategies of guerrilla warfare. In his Congo Diary, he cites the incompetence, intransigence and infighting of the local Congolese forces as key reasons for the insurgency's failure.
At a meeting in Madrid, Juan Perón, who was sympathetic to Guevara but disapproved of Guevara's choice of guerrilla warfare as antiquated, warned Guevara about starting operations in Bolivia.
"...you will not survive in Bolivia. Suspend that plan. Search for alternatives. Do not commit suicide."
— Juan Perón to Che Guevara
While agitating for communist revolution in Bolivia, Guevara was captured by CIA-assisted state forces and summarily executed on this day in 1967.
On November 3rd, 1966, Guevara had secretly arrived in La Paz on a flight from Montevideo under the false name Adolfo Mena González, posing as a middle-aged Uruguayan businessman working for the Organization of American States. Once there, Guevara had difficulty getting cooperation from both local dissidents and the Bolivian Communist Party, despite besting the Bolivian military in several skirmishes.
Bolivian president Rene Barrientos was very concerned with Guevara's rising insurgency, and clamped down in the area with some very heavy-handed measures (such as the San Juan massacre). Guevara felt that such an atrocity by the Bolivian Army and Air Force would be the tipping point in his favour in rallying the miners to his communist cause, but eventually the miners signed with government-owned mining company, COMIBOL, an agreement which Guevara felt undermined his reason for being there.
Many of the inhabitants willingly informed the Bolivian authorities and military about the guerrillas and their movements in the area, which led directly to Guevara's capture on October 7th, 1967.
On October 9th, on orders from the Bolivian President René Barrientos, Guevara was executed. His last words: "Shoot, coward! You are only going to kill a man!"
"The true revolutionary is guided by a great feeling of love. It is impossible to think of a genuine revolutionary lacking this quality."
- Che Guevara
On 17 February 1968, five surviving guerrillas, three Cubans and two Bolivians, managed to get to Chile. There they were detained by policing carabiniers and sent to Iquique. On 22 February, the guerrillas applied for asylum. While in Iquique they were visited by Salvador Allende, then president of the senate of Chile. After the guerrilla's meeting with Allende and other prominent leftist politicians the interior minister of the Christian Democrat government Edmundo Pérez Zujovic decided to expel the guerrillas from Chile. Due to problems in obtaining transit visas the journey to Cuba was done via Tahiti and New Zealand.
After the failure of Guevara's insurgency, radical leftists in Bolivia began to organize again to set up guerrilla resistance in 1970 in what is known today as the Teoponte Guerrilla.
Fernando Gómez, a former member of the Ñancahuazú Guerrilla, led the formation of Salvador Allende's informal bodyguard prior to the 1970 Chilean presidential election.[32] By the time of the election, the bodyguard had expanded with the addition of more ex-Ñancahuazú Guerrillas volunteering to provide security to Allende and, later, members of the Revolutionary Left Movement (MIR).
On one of Allende's first public appearances after his inauguration, a Chilean journalist inquired of the president who the armed men were accompanying him, to which Allende replied "a group of personal friends", giving the group the moniker from which it would thereafter be known.

Ended up pulling myself off a work trip overseas this morning, which I'm very happy with - spent the day instead taking the corgi to the park, playing guitar, cooked a nice dinner with the partner, and watching horror movies now :party-cat:
Just had no desire to subject myself to 30+ hours of airports and flying (round trip, but still) to just sit in meetings. Fuck that. I travel on my own terms.
OH! ALSO I DID EYELINER FOR THE FIRST TIME TODAY! Took a few tries to get it looking decent, but damn it works on me I think!
If I did a "2 Weeks Til Halloween" countdown on c/movies, would people be interested in reading little reviews of the movies I watch? Just a casual thing, might not do 1 every day, but I think at this point I'm well on track to doing 30 scary movies in 30 days for October (some nights I watch 2, some are short, whatevs). Don't have any concrete plans on what to watch yet, just kinda feeling things out based on my mood and what people recommend.
The smell of rice pudding in a slow cooker overnight is an amazing smell to wake up to.
Going to make some almond milk rice pudding tonight with fresh dark maple syrup.
a friend is going off rn about how she hates herself specifically because she's brown. she's a Bangladeshi trans girl who's family married her off in response to discovering she's trans - basically trying to force her to become cishet by sheer willpower. luckily she's on her way to study in Europe, at which point she can do whatever she wants because she'll be a legal adult in a society where being trans in public isn't a serious and literal crime (not only can the cops there just execute you without consequences because you're queer, the justice system will just throw you behind bars for years or decades).
but she's gone down some reddit rabbitholes and has internalized all this to be about how Bangladeshi people are inferior to the superior whites who acknowledge her humanity. and I just don't know how to help. this is an intersection of colonialism and white supremacy and cis supremacy that I can understand intellectually but that is so absurd it makes no emotional sense. she doesn't know the history of queer struggle in the west; she doesn't have the context that the people telling her that her people are inferior are actually fascists - not liberals as they pretend to be - that want to return our society to be more like hers; and she lacks the critical context that her treatment at present is the result of brutal political suppression by the colonial powers, not the resulting from inherent qualities of her people or their religion.
but like how do you convey all that to a hurting and traumatized girl who's lashing out at herself because every environment she enters is absolutely toxic and stuffed to the brim with poisonous propaganda meant for people who are not her? I just don't even know where to start.
Hexbear, send me your spirit bomb-style energy, I'm going with a friend to her family's (Canadian) Thanksgiving. I need my femme-est voice lol
i guy on tinder told me he was watching the shining and i said something like 'that's a great movie'
and then he messaged me back with "wow, a girl who likes horror movies!"

The good thing about banana peels being practically inedible is that, unlike most peels, I throw them away, and they are heavy enough to make the flip lid of my trash can let them in, so I can dunk the nanners from my desk. :fidel-balling: :big-cool:
Well my dad gave me money. Still depressed as fuck though because shit is so expensive anymore. And a part of my tooth broke off so there's another thing that's wrong with me.
Just got called a "fatso" by a woman who looked to be about fifty years old. Some people never grow past middle school bullying.
Call me a basic bitch but I fucking love Star Wars.
What other franchise has given me not one but two shows about rebel insurgencies where the protagonists are the insurgents and are unquestionably the good side
i also loved them describing the different imperial conquests of the empire.
i assume the other show you're talking about is rebels, how good is that?
You’re correct, and Rebels is one of my favorite pieces of visual media I have ever watched. The art style is god awful and it stopped me from watching it for years, but it does get better and it is so so so worth watching. Multiple episodes of that show made me cry.
Also yes, and I also as in every Star Wars thing love when they show how mundane most of the time working in the empire is, just like in the real US military. In Fallen Order I loved hearing snippets of storm troopers complaining about not getting the weekend off. In Andor I love hearing the soldiers say “Hey officer, can we run a skeleton crew so people can watch the meteor shower thing?”
I don’t want to dehumanize fascists. I want people to understand that they’re people just like you and me but they still need to be stopped even if that means killing them.
i agree with all :this:
also i'll check rebels out when a more civilized age gets to it then! should be a few months or so
I’ve been binging a more civilized age, it’s so fucking good
their reactions to the last 2 arcs of clone wars season 5 were wonderful, and i'm so glad they're doing andor now on a weekly basis. it's gonna be hard to go back to getting them every other week
hit me up if you want any of the patreon stuff, i subbed and ripped everything recently
can you lmk when they get to any patreon exclusives? in september i subbed and binged all the bonuses and then unsubscribed
Rebels is good so long as you remember first and foremost it's a kids show. It starts with space dennis the menance with his laser slingshot. When it came out a lot of people were disappointed because Clone Wars had just gotten past being a kids show and it was a bit like being reset to square one, but fortunately it picks up faster. I'd recommend watching the Clone Wars with an aggressive skip list first as some of it's best stuff really is paying off set up from there.
i've seen clone wars thru season 5, like i mentioned i'm listening to a more civilized age and watching along. but thanks!
conclusion of crush posting since y'all rode out me being a cringy ass high school girl on this site
we're together and it's amazing. she's fully moving in over the course of this month
New cat orientation is coming along, he’s been here 2 weeks
The little guy still gets locked in our bedroom when we’re at work, and to sleep with us for the night.
We tried leaving the door open for the first time last night and it actually worked pretty good. He’s an adorable little angel who sleeps between our two pillows, so that was no big deal for him
The big chumbo managed to contain herself until about 4am, when bitelust overcame her (she went after my gf and not the little kitten) and she had to get kicked out
So honestly not bad.
The remaining sticking points:
She loves his kitten food, and she’s getting a little chunky, so she’ll eat his food 100% till empty if we don’t notice and stop her
And she freaks him out even as she gets better about hissing/growling. I think he’s gonna need to bop her back one of these days to get his little kitten confidence, but we can’t worry about that right now, she’s a little too unpredictable to be trusted
Pretty tight all things considered
:stalin-point: come learn something very interesting :read-theory: and how to say lion in Arabic
