I'm so ashamed of my fellow westoid leftists who are aiming for fascists and cheering for the murder and destruction to continue.

Russia sucks and Putin is a dick, sure. Nobody deserves to be murdered for a capitalist state, nobody deserves to have their homes destroyed and be forced to flee, sure. War is murder and there's no nice way of looking at it.

I get why you would want bad stuff to happen to the party you consider the aggressor. But we also have to look at this rationally. What will stop the killing as soon as possible? What benefits the working class the most? A long, drawn-out proxy war fueled by western arms shipments can go on for years, during which thousands and thousands of people get killed, families remain separated, refugees remain uprooted and the homes, industries and infrastructure of Ukraine gets destroyed. This death and destruction will be a given, no matter who wins. On top of this, a continued confrontation between Russia and the US in the Ukraine is increasing the risk of a civilization-ending nuclear war.

Even if the Ukraine somehow manages to win, the destruction will still be there. Ukrainian fascists are going to be emboldened and we are likely to see pogroms against "traitors" in the conquered territories or even a genocide of Russian-speaking residents. On a global scale, a Ukrainian victory will mean an emboldened US empire with a renewed belief in their desire to project power across the globe and crush all opposition. Such a situation doesn't bode well for the global left.

A quick negotiated peace offers a very different scenario. It will stop the killing and destruction very quickly and it will keep the residents of the Donbass safe from Ukrainian retribution. Also, it will put an end to US imperial expansion and make the yanks more receptive to the idea of respecting other great powers' spheres of influence, which will ultimately reduce global conflict potential.

Losing territory will enrage Ukrainian fascists and lead to revanchism but it will give them a less powerful position than if they had won a war. No matter what, Ukraine is not going to be a very happy place for years to come.

There are no good and clean ways to end this conflict. The one with the lowest body count is a negotiated peace where Russia achieves most of her objectives though. Westoid leftists are unwilling to face this gritty truth and recede into liberal idealism, thereby ultimately supporting continued murder.

Ukraine doesn't join NATO so the US can point missiles at Moscow. They stop killing civilians in Donbas, or fuck it just give Donbas to Russia since obviously Ukrainians hate them and people there didn't want to be in Ukraine. There, no war, no human meat shields being fed into the grinder, no slobber ukrainy, no threat of nuclear apocalypse. Most people win, psychopath weapons contractors and race war neo-nazis lose.

The conflict harms the west. It’s probably a net gain. Not that I respect jacobin enough to assume they are taking the long view.
