    ...

I highly doubt that Putin cares about "de-nazifying" Ukraine

Some of y'all are painting him as the vanguard of the next revolution when he's very clearly a capitalist acting in his own self-interest

We know. I don't believe for a second that Putin cares about getting rid of the Nazis, but the CNN narrative is not "Putin's claim is unfounded because he's an oligarch acting in his own self-interest", it's "Putin's claim is unfounded because there's no Nazis in Ukraine something something Zelensky Jewish."

They don't want to admit that Ukraine is full of fascists because that weakens their narrative of Ukraine having democratic values or something, but the Ukrainian officials keep proving Putin "right".

Ahh now that makes a ton more sense. Thanks for clarifying

Yeah. Also, libs miss constantly the fact that there are multiple reasons to care about Ukrainian fascism. They constantly characterize it as legitimizing Russia's invasion, when really maybe leftists (especially U.S. ones) care about them getting armed, funded, and trained by the U.S., and about them being used to repress, torture, and murder people with the endorsement of the U.S.-constructed Ukrainian government....

If the nazis in Ukraine are a political threat then he does care about exterminating them, how is this not obvious? Yes of course this is not about leftist ideology.

Russia is showing zero reservations about killing the Azov battalion, they are putting checkpoints along the Mariupol corridors to search for anyone escaping trying to pretend to be a refugee.

The fascist right wing in Ukraine is 100% confrontational and delusional, they wanted to be part of NATO and kill/exterminate the people in the two republics.

He doesn't have to be a leftist to care about the geopolitical consequences of a neighboring nazi genocidal state controlled by US interests next door.

People are trying realy hard to boil actions down to a single event or ideology without understanding you can reach the same conclusion(Nazi in neighbor country bad) which is leading to some quite ridiculous arguments about not trusting Putin despite Ukrainian nazis dropping like flies.

they care about killing Nazis actively in the way of their access to a warm water port and are concerned with Nazis hostile to russian interests having sway over a region near a valuable port

Yes that is part of it? But it is not all of it by far if that is what you are implying. Western backed neo-nazis are extremely racist towards Russians and want nothing more than to join NATO and bait them into a war, there is no reason to expect he could control them under any circumstance. If he wants to have any sort of stability in and around Ukraine then neo-nazis must be eliminated. This is pretty simple to understand imo.

Yeah, that's a good point. The Ukrainian neo-Nazis are a tool of the U.S. Why the fuck wouldn't Putin want to destroy that tool?

I'm not saying that at all though? I don't know if the guy's motives are genuine or not, I don't know him and I don't know Russia all that much, save for he lost family members to nazis in WWII. What I am saying though is that Putin said he was aiming to get rid of the nazis, and he's doing that. While the media is pretending to play dumb and ignorant of Ukraine's very real fascism problem. Don't get it twisted, I'm not supporting the guy, he stinks.

I think denazification functions pretty much the same way "bringing democracy" did in Iraq. It's something you say to build support on the home front and it's vague enough that everyone can read their own politics into it.

In practice, Lavrov has made some statements that would suggest that denazification would mean ending discrimination against Russians i Ukraine.
