The Cocaine Bear, also known as Pablo Eskobear (sometimes spelled Escobear), was a 175-pound (79-kilogram) American black bear that overdosed on cocaine in 1985. The cocaine had been dropped by drug smugglers in the wilderness in Tennessee, United States. The bear was found dead in northern Georgia and was stuffed and displayed at a mall in Kentucky. It inspired the 2023 action-comedy film, Cocaine Bear.
History
On September 11, 1985, former American narcotics officer and Kentucky-based drug smuggler Andrew C. Thornton II was trafficking cocaine from Colombia into the United States. After dropping off a shipment in Blairsville, Georgia, Thornton and an accomplice departed in an auto-piloted Cessna 404 Titan. En route, the duo dropped a load of 40 plastic containers of cocaine into the wilderness before abandoning the plane above Knoxville, Tennessee. Thornton was instantly killed in the evacuation when his parachute failed to open. According to the FBI, Thornton dumped his cargo due to the weight being too heavy in-flight.
On December 23, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation reported finding a dead black bear that had eaten the cocaine from the containers. The total amount of cocaine eaten was 75 pounds (34 kilograms), valued at 2 million dollars. The chief medical examiner from the Georgia State Crime Lab, Dr. Kenneth Alonso, stated that its stomach was "literally packed to the brim with cocaine", though he estimated the bear had absorbed only 3 to 4 grams into its bloodstream at the time of its death.
Dr. Alonso did not want to waste the body of the bear, so he had it taxidermied and gave it to the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. However, the bear was lost until it emerged again in a pawn shop. Eventually it made its way to the "Kentucky for Kentucky Fun Mall" in Lexington, Kentucky where it remains to this day.
In popular culture
On March 9, 2021, Universal Pictures announced that a film, Cocaine Bear, was in development. It was also confirmed that the film would be directed by Elizabeth Banks. However, the film takes some liberties, as the real events which occurred between the bear's ingestion of cocaine and its death are not known; notably, the bear did not kill any people, unlike the bear portrayed in the film. The film is scheduled to be released on February 24, 2023.

Sitting on the toilet taking a fat shit and what do you know? Just in time for the new megathread
Is this movie a meme or actually good? Been seeing a lot of talk about it and estimations of it potentially making hundreds of millions. I can’t tell if it’s all a big meme like Morbius or actually worth watching.

Briefly forgot the word for ADHD and almost called it "psychic tinnitus" and I think I might actually run with that for a while

Slowly crawling my way out of the depression hole! Yesterday was the first time I came home to a clean home and the amount of comfort that comes from that is immense. I am really appreciating the effort three-months-ago me put into hunting for furniture and other things that suit me. Now I am sitting in my nice big chair with my improvised footrest with the type of lighting I find soothing and burning some incense. There is no clutter on the floor and it doesn't feel gross to walk on with my bare feet. Feeling really grateful for the time I spent cleaning earlier this week and looking back at my past self with more compassion.
I've been experiencing odd moments of pure happiness lately. Well it's not exactly happiness per se, though it does feel good. If I could put it in words it's more like the feeling of awe you get when you look up at something massive towering above you.
The most common time I get it is looking up at the clouds on my drive home. Its not exactly odd in that case since there are really big clouds as its rainy and they're very beautiful, but I've never felt this way by just looking at clouds. When it hits me its a lot like the sensations I got when visiting the redwoods. It's a sense of clarity and peace, a feeling of being a tiny being dwarfed by ancient giants; its the smell of crisp clean air of the coast and the forest, the calm serenity in silence. Its like Im reliving all those moments over and over and it never gets old. Idk if there's a word for it, it's spiritual in a sense.
But I also get little flashes of that feeling when I'm doing completely mundane things like working. Like, I'll be stacking boxes or driving my forklift and suddenly everything around me fills me with wonder. Like the experience of living, of existence itself, goes from completely average to amazing. It feels good, it's a wonderful feeling, but Idk it's also a very strange sensation at the same time. I struggle with depression so I know what it's like to feel the opposite of this, but I dont think this is what people without depression feel like... maybe its the juxtaposition between how I expect daily life to feel (bad) vs how its beginning to feel (normal) that makes it seem so much better? Except I haven't been deeply depressed for years so I dont think its that. Idk, maybe my mind is just so bored it started tapping into memories and emotions it enjoys.
I think this is just what poking out of the Malaise feels like. I get this every spring and every time I go camping.
I mean, I guess it could just be that. I still think its very odd that im getting feelings of exaltation while walking around in a warehouse.
My ex from 1.5 years ago randomly stopped ghosting me a few days ago, apologized for what happened, and it looks like I'm ghosted again a few days later lmao
I appreciate the closure but now my emotions are somewhat fucked up again, after thinking I was fully over it and moving on. Real darkness has love for a face, the first death is in the heart, etc.
I haven't been spamming, just no reply to my last message mid-conversation. I figured this was the last chance of even being friends again, but clearly she never wanted to remain friends and makes me question the reason I was finally given for the breakup

And they kep going "this violence is unbelievable" and it's like yeah buddy because you're just makinf shit up.

remember gang, under no circumstances do you ever have to "hand it" to ISIS.
Very bad, stupid joke - you have been warned
Did you hear about the hungry clock?
It went back four seconds.
Mini-rant.
This is a good pun because it works on two levels. If you say it out loud, it makes sense as a sentence either way. That's the sign of a true pun.
Puns that only work on one level are reddit tier garbage. They're not puns, they're just word association. What I truly, truly hate are those jokes which are several sentences of set-up with nonsense, so the "punchline" reveals some terrible pun. Something like this.
spoiler
___There was once an island kingdom whose people were all fabulously wealthy. Even though they could have afforded to live anywhere they wanted, tradition dictated they stay on their tiny island home.
Eventually, their king became frustrated and called a meeting of the tribe's elders. He said he wanted them to figure out a way he could enjoy his wealth, and stay within traditional guidelines.
After much consideration, the elders suggested he build a magnificent throne. When he objected there was not enough room in his hut for a throne, the elders suggested he call in an engineer to solve the problem.
Soon, the king's tiny hut was rigged with an elaborate system of ropes and pulleys. He could lower the huge throne for use during the day, and at night, he could haul the throne up, and lower his bed. This was truly the best of both worlds for the king.
Unfortunately, after a few months of constant use, the ropes frayed, and one night, the throne slipped and came crashing down on the king, killing him.
The wise men of the island recognized a lesson in this experience and added to the lore of their people this statement: "People who live in grass houses should not stow thrones."
I'd never torture you guys with a joke on a "listen to this much funny" reddit copypasta.
But I'd love for a bunch of stand up comics (an excellent to awful) have a contest where each comic has different audience to get the most laughs out out of that loooooooooong wait to the very lame punchline. Paradoxically - I think the worst comedians might have the most luck because failure on stage at every level can be fascinating to watch. It's like watching the human equivalent of a bridge collapse.
Norm MacDonald has a fantastic bit about the moth that goes to the podiatrist's office. I've told it at parties before and watching people writhe in pain waiting for the punchline is great fun.
I love that joke.

All that's available is shitty quality. Gah.
It’s kinda absurd to me how there is no finish line in corporate America. You literally just keep working until your retirement/death in my case
:agony-shivering:
Why do Americans either want to claim that they're poor as shit. My brother in Christ you drive a Ford 350 to your accounting job, just own being middle class or whatever
had someone in a vague left discord server once tell me "i'm dirt poor, living paycheck to paycheck", literally 5 minutes later it turned out she had 35k in savings
i have never even seen 35k lmaoStolen real American dream valor.
Biden the dems use that shit. "Being middle class is a feeling..." etc.
