      I've always thought that some kind of archive, which filtered out all the noise and repeats, would be something valuable for us as a resource. Partially out of curiosity and keeping informed on issues beyond those in the domestic US (not that they aren't important, but they are already covered here quite well), partially to prevent memoryholing, and partially to have a wide variety of contemporary sources of information to have at our disposal.

      I guess I became the person who did that, at least for this website. I don't wanna make myself into a brand like 7DeadlyFetishes (SeventyTwoTrillionDeadlyFetishes?) or anything like that, as I recently said, I just wanna help people out in the ways that I can.

        You could very easily parlay this into a small news site with no change to your daily bulletins. You might even be able to make a living off it, or at the very least supplement your income. Worth considering, hmu if you have hosting questions.

          I second this.

          Aggregation of information with a methodological emphasis for material accuracy is a godsend.

          I'm really starting to think that construction of anticapitalist wikipedia / anticapitalist twitter / anticapitalist reddit (hexbear!) / etc, all hosted safely (replicate thepiratebay's approach perhaps) is the best near-term goal for leftists who refuse to go outside.

            It would be neat to organize some kind of media front with contributions filtered through hexbear, could run ad revenue back into operating costs.

          I used zerohedge as a source for fringe news for years before I looked into its background. Some Bulgarian communist propagandist's fail son built a media empire as a magnet for the US right and right-libertarian fringe (probably as a channel for Kremlin propaganda, honestly). It's useful as an aggregator for fringe economic and geopolitical news as well as a way to keep a bead on right-wing :brainworms:

          I'd be down for this. I'd want it to be attached to the Hexbear "brand" in some way if possible, if the admins are okay with that. Hexnews or something, idk, or maybe leftu as you suggested. My main issue with making my own site or blog or whatever is maintaining anonymity, both for me and the people using it.

            With ID protection on the domain registration, registrant identity is hidden from the public record. Throw in free Cloudflare DNS management and it's pretty safe from prying eyes trying to figure out who's running it. It could be as simple as a quick WordPress installation. I'm no web dev but I could toss one together pretty quickly if there's interest, although I have no experience running ads or anything like that.

                  @nat_turner_overdrive and @SeventyTwoTrillion - Hi there! Love the idea of this project and definitely interested. If you want, we could utilize the wiki features in our existing gitea instance. It is a bit more limited than other wiki tools, but its ready to go.

                    That sounds doable. I'm a fucking moron, though. If we do it via gitea it's gonna take me some time to get less grillbrained on it. A DNS record for the subdomain with a wordpress installation somewhere else would be easier for my limited mammalbrain, but I get that it divides control so I understand if that's not the way forward.

                  @CARCOSA hate to bother you because i think this probably should be directed elsewhere but what's the way to ask the mods about using a hexbear subdomain? Should only require pointing an A record for the subdomain to whatever hosting situation, assuming it's okay to do.

        People have used Git archives pretty effectively for stuff like this, I guess. Online hosting like Github and Bitbucket will render markdown in their web interfaces, and the great thing about Git as a platform (distributed, non-hierarchical version control) is that people can mirror it with ease by cloning or forking, and could even send you requests to merge in new content back at the original repository.

      It really is though. I've found myself enjoying this site as a superior source to leftist content and discussions than what I can find on Reddit nowadays. Genzedong was pretty good, but a little too contrarian at times for my liking. Shitliberalssay is okay too but again there's not a whole lot of discussion as much as there is dunking on posts.

      I also find the site easier on the eyes and better than Lemmygrad. No offense to them.

        Which is why I'm on the train of "we don't need to try to grow this site." I think expanding userbase by absorbing a bunch of Genzedongs or Twitterers will change the character of the site.
