Happy world hamster day, conrads! Today may we all celebrate the tiny rodents! Have some hamster facts!

Hamsters have an extremely high alcohol tolerance and can drink Everclear 190 while only getting a little buzzed
-
The domestic hamster can run over 5 miles in a single night, keeping you up all night with frantic wheel squeaking noises
-
Hamsters have extremely flexible spines that allow them to turn around in any tunnel they can fit in
-
Hamsters' cheek pouches extend all the way to their hips and can carry up to a quarter of their body weight in them
-
It is believed that almost, if not all domesticated Syrian hamsters, the most common species of pet hamster, can trace their lineage back to a single pregnant female caught in the wild in 1930

Every morning I wait for the bus with my preschooler and am silently judged by my fellow suburban parents for my appearance. Today was a fun one.
I am 6’5”, fully bearded, and have blonde-dyed-teal hair down to my butt. I’m wearing a tie dye shirt that almost touches my knees, cinched around my waist with a dark ribbon to make it look dress-ish. My shorts are black and grey zebra print and they go just above my knees. I’m wearing enough bracelets and necklaces to jingle as I walk.
Divorced Dad across the street looks happy and is being chatty with the other parent at the stop. He sees me approach, falls silent, sighs, and faces forward. The other parent looks at him all confused, greets me, and we talk the rest of the wait. When the kids are on the bus, we all say goodbye, except for Divorced Dad, who specifically turns the longer direction in order to not face me and walks away without saying anything. My partner has confirmed that he doesn’t act this way when I’m not the one at the stop.
Stay mad, Divorced Dad. I ain’t hurting nobody.
It’s Universal Pre-K provided by the local school district, so they ride with the elementary school kids. What we pay in taxes on our house for the year is what we’d pay for daycare in two months otherwise. It’s incredible.
I traveled to a city with cheap public transit for the first time recently. I imagine it’s a similar feeling.
I fucking silently hate people for dozens of reasons, but their appearance ain't one of those reasons. At least you know right away what dipshits they are.
Yeah it’s a good way to filter people out I guess. He used to be very polite before I started dressing how I wanted. Whatever lol

the british have established a protectorate over Uganda
literally 1894
Don't burn any bridges i know the feeling :/ Playing them is more valuable than vindication
I know i can always fall back to a well paying job despite not exactly being skilled because i sucked it up when I quit a job I hated. Being all by myself, that security rules when I think about losing my current job that I love.
Crazy how the internet is basically built on algorithms that encourage engagement through making people mad
this place has no algorithm and im still mad
that might be a me problem tho
We should be using that anger to boil water to produce steam that spins a turbine to generate electricity imo

But I'm in a tent! :scared:
I'm in those little sleeves on top of the tent where you put the iron sticks or w/e
Pre-covid, I tried very hard to break my video game addiction. Now I just feel like: I game, I enjoyed the whole day, spent nearly zero money, have no risk of covid, and I'm not stressing impending world issues for a change. Am I doing it wrong?
I only feel guilty in that I could usually be doing something more productive. It's fine as a hobby and a good excuse to do something with friends I can't meet in person.
My mother in law, who worked all her life in poorly paid care work, is angry at my partner for seeking the help of her union to correct wrongly calculated wages that she is entitled to by the union contract. Apparently my partner is being "misbehaved" and "greedy" for trying to get money she worked for. She "makes enough money" and she "should be thankful just to have a job".
The same mother in law was also offended that my partner doesn't volunteer to do extra unpaid work to do something for the children she works with.
Sometimes the false consciousness really hits you over the head with a hammer.
was also offended that my partner doesn’t volunteer to do extra unpaid work
Why are some people like this? I know people who run themselves ragged doing this and then complain about how tired and broke they are????
My theory is they internalize the idea of being selfless as a defense mechanism. They think there isn't another way - that life is hard, unfair, and poorly paid regardless - so the suffering becomes selfless, even noble as a defence. People did it for centuries with religion and now capitalism is the dominant religion.
I think people underestimate what people will rationalise in order to try and protect themselves from hopelessness.
It's not even the employer pressuring them to do extra work, my mother-in-law is kind of expecting my partner to come up with and organise it herself.
Bladerunner 2049 was more the way I expected it to be. Pretty cool movies.
spoiler
brb falling in love with my ai waifu named jack off instruction
Someone asked Villeneuve about that and he denied any connections. The Volcel Bureau of Investigation needs to take a closer look at his web browser history
:che-laugh: falling in love with my ai wife named "text to speech" must be French or something
very spoiler
Yeah that was real neat. It was telegraphed pretty well tbh, but I still thought he was because I thought it was twins. It strains my suspension of disbelief just a little to think that the kid ended up making replicant memories (a lot of fuzziness there - but that seems to be part of both movies' thing), but the internal character stuff definitely landed for me.
The shot where he hands Deckard the horse made me a little misty.
been listening to blowback since someone mentioned it in a comment. I knew some of the Iraq war but as someone else pointed out hearing the events one after another is mad. The scale of the sins is tremendous. This must be hell
every day my faith in god is tested by the continued existence of the united states
That podcast is what firmly cemented America as the Great Satan in my eyes. And it's not even close
npr's twitter tantrum is so fucking funny
I couldn't care less where the fuck they get their funding - just seeing them get treated like how we treat every 'unfriendly' media org/corp and watching them go "wtf bro, not me" fills me with so much joy. get fucked.
